is often said that these two terms are basically the same thing, but I think that instead are distinguished for the following reasons now explain:
Starting from the certainty that we were created in the image and likeness of God, and that the Spirit of the Father was also in the First-Born Son, this means that our being is also formed by a spirit because it can contain the Holy Spirit (Mt.16, 13-17, At. 2, 1-4).
" Jesus says in the Gospel of His Spirit and the Father are one. He is perfect: his soul is always in full Holiness Purity in full. "
Considering that only a pure spirit can contain the Holy Spirit, I think you must necessarily infer that our soul can not be held equal to the spirit because it can be corrupted by sin and death . So we can say that the spirit of man is similar to that of God when the soul (which may be ours, but also one or more loved ones) to keep it holy in the eyes of the Lord in the Sacraments, with Prayer, the Word, with the Grace and Charity . Conversely, when the spirit is lowered from the soul corrupted by sin, it is a prey to the spirit of the devil and so in this case is not as similar to that of God, nevertheless, if the soul of a person feels humiliated and then regretted having betrayed the Lord through the sacrament of Confession and the Eucharist can rely on action mercy of the Risen Christ who forgives the sins of the world, tearing the evil spirit of that person and holds him close to himself: in this case the human spirit can hold back the Holy Spirit to assume its substance.
Ultimately it should be noted this concept " the spirit of every Christian is given by the Father sanctified and glorified by the Holy Spirit through baptism and as it must return to the Father because he took the substance. So the only way the human mind can contemplate the Lord face to face. 
But because human life is the soul to determine if the spirit should contemplate the Face of the Lord, or even deny its existence?
For God wanted to create a free man to let him decide for himself whether to follow the real truth or falsehood of the devil (light or dark). Only in a state of total freedom, and that is bringing its wisdom to ecstasy of transcendence, man is able to understand all the love that God the Father has for him.
A moment before death, the Christian, who has always done the will of the Lord, entrusts his immortal spirit pure the Father (Lk. 23, 46, Sl. 31.6) . After his death, his soul and his body will be resurrected on the third day by the divine light of Christ, the firstborn son, and so will live in Heaven for all eternity (Ezekiel 18, 4-32, 1 Cor. 13, 12 ).
The substantial difference between the spirit and therefore the soul of a Christian who always does the will of God, in my opinion is that while the spirit will never die with death, conversely, the soul dies with the body (this part of this intellectual and material substance are inseparable in humans) but both are raised by the divine light and transformed into a heavenly light similar to that of an angel, through Christ, with Christ and in Christ. As soon as this light comes to the Father, the spirit, and so it comes together with the holy person can contemplate the Lord face to face. 
How do we contemplate with the eyes of the transcendent Creator of the Spirit of God the Father in life?
As we have said in previous post, God the Father to create the life of man is spirit and matter, created by Him. The lineage from which we derive (that of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, King David and so on until you come to our grandparents) is therefore the Spirit of Grace of God's creative because it allowed to keep more life here on earth; this spirit of grace, merging with the spirit of grace of our parents, along with their soul and their field has allowed the existence of our lives.
